Working on model-infra co-design to push the limits of foundation models. Deep down my heart, I love writing code that makes things happen!

Hao Kang

I’m an incoming PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Prof. Chenyan Xiong , with whom I’ve been working on foundation-model research. I work in close collaboration with Prof. Tianqi Chen on the PithTrain project, where I co-lead the development of a compact, agent-native MoE training system.

My research focuses on model-infra co-design, studying how models represent and process information, and designing hardware-aligned architectures that expand the computational and representational efficiency of large-scale foundation models.

Over time, I’ve come to trust the spirit of collaboration. Everyone brings something different, and we go further when we share strengths, lift each other up, and see the brilliance in perspectives not our own.
